INEC Trains SPOs for 2023 General Election

Critical Election duty staff for the 2023 General Election have commenced a two-day training organized by the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, to acquaint them with functions and process of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System(BVAS).

Speaking after an inspection tour to the training centre, in Abuja, INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu said the trainees who are to serve as Supervisory Presiding Officers(SPOs) for the election, will be trained between Saturday February 11 and Sunday 12.

According to the INEC Chairman, the Presiding Officers(POs) and Assistant Presiding Officers(APOs) to be deployed to man the polling unit level will have their training between Tuesday, 14th and Thursday 16th next week.

Yakubu who described the training as a reassurance to Nigerians that the Commission is fully prepared to conduct the General Election, also disclosed that all the election duty staff would swear to an oath of neutrality and allegiance to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The Chief Electoral Umpire reiterated the commitment of the Commission to the electoral process in ensuring that the choice of Nigerians count in the forthcoming election.

Also speaking The Director General of The Electoral Institute TEI, Dr Sa’ad Idris said with the capacity building of the Adhoc staff on how to handle and operate the BVAS, Nigerians are assured of a free, fair and credible election in 2023.

Idris also announced the upcoming training for Collation Officers, slated to hold between 21 and 22 of this month.
