State governments have been urged to cooperate in tackling congestion in custodial facilities across the country.

According to Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, who made the plea, the facilities were twenty-two per cent overcrowded above their capacity.

Aregbesola said facilities across the country currently had a population of seventy-four thousand, six hundred and thirty-two inmates whereas the facilities have the capacity for fifty-seven thousand, two hundred and seventy-eight inmates.

He said this in Lagos while inaugurating the Zone A office complex and the ICT hub provided for inmates of the medium custodial centre by a non-governmental organisation, Anchor Heritage Initiative.

The minister spoke through Permanent Secretary, Dr Shuaib Belgore.
