SUDAN DECLARES U.N SPECIAL ENVOY, VOLKER PERTHES, ‘PERSONA NON GRATA’

The Republic of Sudan has notified the special representative of the United Nations U.N secretary-general in Sudan and head of the U.N Integrated Transition Assistance Mission, Sudan, UNITAMS, Volker Perthes as “persona non grata”.

The Government has notified the U.N Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres that it has declared Perthes ”persona non grata” which means an unwelcome person.

The country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs disclosed this in a statement.

The U.N Chief, Antonio Guterres said he was “shocked” by a letter from Sudanese army Boss, Abdel al-Burhan reportedly requesting the replacement of Perthes.

Meanwhile, the U.N spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric said in a statement that Secretary-General was proud of the work done by Volker Perthes and reaffirms his full confidence in his special representative.
