The Federal Government has intensified efforts to address the rising cost of aviation fuel and mounting pressure on airline operators, as part of broader plans to stabilise Nigeria’s aviation sector, and shield passengers from escalating airfares.
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, stated this in a statement shared via his official X handle, noting that he recently held discussions with the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, on the challenges confronting the industry.
According to Oyedele, the meeting centred on both immediate concerns particularly the surge in aviation fuel costs and long-term opportunities to reposition the sector for sustainable growth.
Beyond aviation, Oyedele outlined his broader economic agenda, emphasising the need to consolidate ongoing reforms and ensure they deliver tangible benefits to citizens.
He identified key priority areas, including boosting productivity and economic growth, through stable and investor-friendly environment, maintaining fiscal discipline in public spending, and enhancing revenue generation through fair and balanced taxation.
The minister, also stressed the importance of stronger coordination across government institutions and deeper collaboration with the private sector to improve policy design and execution.
