President Muhammadu Buhari, has approved the immediate release of forty thousand metric tonnes of assorted grains, from the Strategic Grains Reserve, to assist less-privileged Nigerians, in celebrating Easter and forthcoming Sallah festivities.
The President gave the order for the distribution of the grains when he summoned the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Muhammed Mahmood, to the State House.
Briefing State House correspondents after the closed door meeting with the president., the minister said he was directed to disburse the commodities to the affected people.
He expressed optimism that the exercise would also cushion the effects of high prices of grains in the market.
